Advanced Technology Services launches business jet parts division Illinois-based Advanced Technology Services (ATS) is launching a maintenance-related business aimed at the corporate jet market, while also preparing to open a Federal Aviation Administration-certified repair station. The company, which already provides maintenance-related services to a variety of industries, now overhauls and sells aircraft parts, and provides supply chain and logistics services to operators of business aircraft, ATS director of aviation Bill Kamm tells Flightglobal. ATS’ maintenance division also calibrates aviation parts and provides recruiting services that can help operators hire staff, such as pilots, Kamm adds. “We are in aviation in a lot of different spots” he says. “I don’t know of anybody who does it this way.” Kamm tells Flightglobal that an increasing shortage of available parts for older business aircraft has driven demand for ATS’ new services. Examples of such parts include aircraft wheels and engine and cabin management system components, he says, noting that ATS has overhauled and returned to service aircraft wheels that otherwise were “beyond normal repair limits”. “Our focus is on the repair of typical items that are beyond economical repair,” he says. “Some poor person buys an airplane and the cabin management system is not supported. If it breaks, what do you do?” ATS currently has an application pending with the FAA for Part 145 repair station certification, which would allow it to bring in-house work currently outsourced. The company expects the FAA to grant the certificate in the next several months, and ATS hopes to have repair stations operating in Peoria and Greenville, South Carolina, by July, Kamm says.
