Private Jets Roll Out of Denton Airport

The Super Bowl brought in plenty of high-rollers on private jets. In fact, 400 private planes took off from DFW International Airport and 191 departed from Dallas Love Field after Sunday night's game. Planes were also lining up at the Denton Municipal Airport
"All Green Bay fans, not a single Pittsburg fan in the bunch," Damon Ward, President of the fixed based operation Business Air, said.
Ward Said he's thankful for the 20 plus planes which departed from Denton Municipal airport Monday, especially on the heels of last week's winter blast.
Airport manager Quentin Hix said Monday's numbers were not bad, but they were expecting more air traffic. The airport is lengthening its runway and timed the project to coincide with the Super Bowl.
"We had made specific plans in the phasing of the construction of our 1,000 foot runway extension to allow for Super Bowl anticipated traffic," Hix said.
The weather put a damper on those plans. For two days, snow and ice covered the runways in Denton, and no one could arrive or depart from the airport. "They were disappointed, and we were challenged," Hix said.
Airport officials had to come up with creative ways to clear the runways of all the snow and ice.
"We jet blasted it, and then we went out and mowed it. Our maintenance man now is infamous for mowing the snow," Hix said. "Everyone just dug their heels into it and made the best of it," Ward said.
