Bombardier has hired a veteran of the commercial aerospace industry to help kick-start sales of its new CSeries aircraft.
Charles (Chet) Fuller will become senior vice president of sales, marketing and asset management next month.
He has 25 years of aerospace experience and was president of civil systems for GE Aviation. Fuller previously worked at Honeywell Aerospace and ATA Airlines and was a U.S.Navy carrier pilot.
"With his broad range of experience in the aerospace and airline industries, Chet will bring a fresh perspective to his role as the head of our commercial aircraft sales and marketing teams — with a particular emphasis on our all-new CSeries family of commercial aircraft," stated Gary Scott, president of the commercial aircraft.
The Montreal-based aerospace manufacturer disappointed some industry observers when it failed to announce any CSeries sales at a recent air show in China.
It also failed to sign any orders for last summer's Farnborough Airshow in Britain.
So far, it has 90 firm orders and options for 90 aircraft. The plane is slated for delivery beginning the end of 2013.
Benoit Poirier of Desjardins Securities believes Airbus will announce plans by year-end to put new engines on its A320 planes.
The decision will have "no impact on our positive view of the CSeries program," he wrote in a report.
"Bombardier's window of opportunity could be shorter than initially expected (two years vs. six years previously)."
Boeing will likely wait to produce a new plane in 2020 rather than upgrade its 737, he added.
Analysts expect Bombardier will report Dec. 2 that it earned nine cents US of earnings per share in the third quarter on US$4.6 billion of revenues.
