Airbus ACJ318 for Sale: The A318 That Turned an Airline Cabin Into a Private Jet
The Short Story

The ACJ318 is an unusual aircraft.

Airbus took the smallest member of the A320 family and built a corporate aircraft around the thing it already had in abundance: cabin space. The A318 Elite was launched in 2005, giving private operators access to an aircraft with the dimensions and systems of a commercial airliner, but with a completely different interior mission.

That decision still explains the ACJ318 today.

You are looking at a 21.26 m long aircraft with a 3.70 m wide fuselage, fly-by-wire controls and an A320-family cockpit. Depending on the completion, the cabin can be arranged for 14 or 19 passengers, with lounges, dining areas, offices and sleeping accommodation.

It is a lot of airplane for a private cabin.

The important part for a buyer is that ACJ318s are not identical. Engine type, auxiliary fuel, interior weight, avionics, maintenance status and the actual completion can change the aircraft's value and mission considerably.

• Same model. Different airplane.

An ACJ318 with CFM56 engines, auxiliary fuel and a relatively light interior can be a very different proposition from another aircraft with a heavy VIP completion and different engine configuration.
EASA's A.064 certification material covers multiple A318 variants, while CFM documentation confirms the CFM56-5B application to the A318.
When comparing two aircraft, I would start with the serial number, engine model, fuel installation and completion weight.
Not the advertisement headline.

• The cabin is the real advantage.

This is where the ACJ318 earns its place.
A current 19-seat example can sleep eight passengers, while the same basic airframe can be arranged around private living and working areas. Another ACJ318 operated by Gama Aviation was configured for 14 VIP passengers.
That flexibility is difficult to reproduce in a conventional business jet without moving into a much larger aircraft.

• Airbus support is still part of the equation.

The aircraft is old enough that support matters.
Airbus currently maintains ACJ Care, dedicated customer support and an ACJ Service Centre Network. Airbus lists eight approved facilities covering maintenance, cabin refurbishment and system upgrades.
EASA's A.064 certificate remains active, with the current record showing Issue 92 in June 2026.
That does not make an individual aircraft automatically easy or cheap to own. It does mean the buyer is dealing with a supported Airbus type rather than an orphaned airframe.

Airbus ACJ319 for sale:
Range: ACJ319 aircraft have published missions beyond the ACJ318, while the newer ACJ319neo reaches 6,750 nm with eight passengers under Airbus' published assumptions.
Passengers: up to 19 in corporate configurations.
The ACJ319 is the closest comparison because it keeps the same basic Airbus cabin concept while giving the buyer more fuselage length and range. If the ACJ318 is close to the edge of the required mission, this is the first alternative I would examine.

Boeing BBJ 737-7 for sale:
Range: up to 6,600 nm in Boeing's published BBJ specification.
Passengers: configuration dependent.
The BBJ 737-7 is the natural Boeing alternative. It has substantially more range than the ACJ318 and remains an airliner-derived corporate aircraft. For a buyer who needs longer intercontinental missions, the BBJ has a clear advantage.
The ACJ318 can still make sense when the required mission is shorter and the buyer is looking for a used Airbus platform with a large existing VIP completion.

Embraer Lineage 1000E for sale:
Range: around 4,600 nm in published specifications.
Passengers: up to 19.
The Lineage is a particularly relevant comparison because it also turns a commercial aircraft platform into a private aircraft.
The cabins are large in both cases. The ACJ318's main advantage is the width and volume of the A320-family fuselage.

Gulfstream G450 for sale:
Range: around 4,350 nm with eight passengers under published NBAA assumptions.
Passengers: up to 16, depending on configuration.
The G450 is much closer to a conventional business jet. Its cabin is smaller, but the aircraft is easier to fit into a normal business-aviation operating model.
The comparison comes down to mission size. If you need a large group cabin, the ACJ318 has the space. If you normally carry fewer people, the Gulfstream becomes more attractive.

Dassault Falcon 900LX for sale:
Range: 4,750 nm with six passengers under Dassault's published NBAA IFR assumptions.
Passengers: configuration dependent.
The Falcon 900LX is a different tool. Three engines, a smaller cabin and a traditional business-jet layout make it attractive for a buyer who does not need the ACJ318's interior volume.
The ACJ318 wins on cabin space. The Falcon is the more conventional business-jet choice.

Bombardier Global 5000 for sale:
Range: 5,200 nm in Bombardier's published mission profile.
Passengers: up to 16.
The Global 5000 has more range and a faster business-jet operating profile, but the cabin is much narrower than the Airbus.
That is the important comparison. The Global is strong when long-range executive travel is the priority. The ACJ318 becomes more compelling when the cabin itself is part of the mission.

• The cabin gives you room to work with.

This is the strongest reason.
The 3.70 m fuselage width allows an interior designer to create spaces that feel closer to a small private residence than a traditional business jet. Actual ACJ318 completions show lounges, dining areas, offices and bedrooms rather than just rows of executive seats.
If several passengers travel together regularly, that space can be used every minute of the flight.

• The aircraft can carry a group without becoming a small airliner inside.

Up to 19 passengers are possible in the corporate configuration, but the owner is free to go in the other direction and create a much more private cabin.
That is a useful combination. One aircraft can work for a family trip, a corporate group or a VVIP mission without changing the basic platform.

• You accept the size because you want the cabin.

There is a price for having all that space.
The ACJ318 is heavier and more complex than a conventional business jet in the same mission class, and the airframe's age now needs to be considered alongside engine and maintenance status.
For an owner who regularly carries ten or more passengers, that trade can work very well. For a smaller passenger load, a Global, Gulfstream or Falcon may be the more practical aircraft.

The ACJ318 is a specialist aircraft with a very clear reason for existing.

Its cabin is the attraction. The A320-family platform, Airbus support structure and capacity for up to 19 passengers make it unusual among private aircraft.

Range should be evaluated aircraft by aircraft. A current real-world ACJ318 example is published at 3,450 nm, while other ACJ318 configurations have been marketed with longer range capability.

For an owner moving eight to 19 passengers on regional and intercontinental missions where cabin space is important, the ACJ318 deserves a serious look.
