CESSNA CITATION CJ2 / CJ2+
Cessna CitationJet CJ2 / CJ2+: The Stretch That Sold 250+
The 2000 Upgrade That Hit the Sweet Spot
In 2000, Cessna applied the proven formula to the successful CJ1: stretch the fuselage, add more powerful engines, keep the efficiency. The CJ2 (Model 525A) was 2 feet longer than the CJ1, with Williams FJ442C engines (2,400 lbf) and Navaid Autopilot as standard.

The result was an aircraft that carried 6 - 8 passengers with 2,778 km (1,500 nm) range - the sweet spot for corporate operations. Over 250 CJ2s were built before production ended in 2016.
Specifications That Built a Fleet
• Range: 2,778 km (1,500 nm) - New York to Denver, London to Athens;
• Speed: 754 km/h (407 knots) - faster than CJ1, matching competitors;
• Capacity: 6 - 8 passengers in the stretched cabin;
• Engines: FJ44-2C (CJ2) or FJ44-3A-24 (CJ2+) - 2,400 - 2,820 lbf;
• Takeoff: 3,360 ft - still accessible to smaller airports.

The CJ2 and CJ2+ are not exactly the same aircraft.
The original CJ2 uses Williams FJ44-2C engines. The CJ2+ came later with FJ44-3A-24 engines, FADEC and updated avionics. Production of the CJ2+ continued until 2016.
Three Things About the CJ2 You May Not Know
  • The CJ2 entered service in 2000.
It was developed from the CitationJet family and became the Model 525A.
  • The CJ2+ received a meaningful upgrade.
The later aircraft introduced FJ44-3A-24 engines with FADEC and updated avionics.
  • 225 CJ2+ aircraft were produced.
Aviation Week reports production from 2005 to 2016, with 225 CJ2+ aircraft built.
That is a healthy production run for a light business jet.
Cessna CitationJet CJ2 / CJ2+ competitors
If you're looking at a Cessna CitationJet CJ2 / CJ2+ aircraft for sale, you should also compare it with a few other aircraft.

Embraer Phenom 300 / 300E / Range: up to 2,010 nm / Passengers: up to 10, depending on configuration.

Cessna Citation CJ3 / CJ3+ / Range: up to 2,040 nm / Passengers: up to 9.

Cessna Citation M2 / Range: up to 1,550 nm / Passengers: up to 7.

The Phenom 300 gives you more range.
The CJ3 gives you more range than the CJ2.
The M2 is smaller.
But here is what matters more than the numbers.
Which aircraft fits the trips you actually fly?
If you normally fly four people 700 miles, buying a larger jet because it has another 500 miles of range may not make much sense.
If you regularly need 1,700 miles with passengers and bags, then the CJ2 may not be enough.
We would rather find that out before you buy.
The Verdict
The Cessna Citation CJ2 for sale is a practical light jet. It has enough cabin for a small business group, useful range for many common business routes and a long history in the Citation family.
The Cessna CitationJet CJ2 is the aircraft that proved the CJ formula could scale. It took the CJ1's affordability and added the performance that corporate operators demanded.

For the buyer seeking a CJ2, you're acquiring the most balanced light jet ever built - the perfect compromise of cost, capability, and reliability.
