If you want a business jet that feels like it was designed by people who actually cared about how an aircraft flies, take a serious look at the Dassault Falcon 20 for sale market.

The story starts in Bordeaux in 1963.

Dassault's first business jet, originally called the Mystère 20, flew for the first time on May 4, 1963. The company was already famous for military aircraft, and that heritage shows in the Falcon 20's swept-wing design, structure and handling. Production started in 1965, and the aircraft quickly attracted attention in the United States. Charles Lindbergh was impressed enough to recommend it to Pan Am, which went on to order 40 aircraft with options for another 120.

That tells you something.

This was never designed as a slow corporate lounge with engines attached.

It was designed to fly.

• Range: 3,335 km (1,800 nm): remarkable for the era;
• Speed: 750 km/h (405 knots) - faster than contemporary Citations;
• Capacity: 8 - 12 passengers in the spacious cabin;
• Engines: Garrett TFE731 × 2 (3,700 lbf) - quieter, more efficient than originals;
• Handling: Fighter-jet responsive, demanding, rewarding.

The original aircraft used General Electric CF700 turbofans and could carry up to 10 passengers, with cruise performance reaching approximately Mach 0.80. Later aircraft were converted to Garrett TFE731 engines, creating the Falcon 20-5 variants. Those conversions changed the character of the airplane considerably and are worth looking at closely when evaluating a Falcon 20 aircraft for sale.

• Charles Lindbergh helped put the Falcon 20 on the American map.

After seeing the Mystère 20 at Dassault, Lindbergh recommended it to Pan Am's Juan Trippe. Pan Am subsequently ordered the aircraft and helped establish the Falcon's presence in the American business aviation market.

• FedEx built part of its early story around the Falcon 20.

In 1973, FedEx launched operations with 33 Falcon 20s modified for cargo work, including a large forward cargo door. The aircraft proved useful well beyond the executive transport role it was originally designed for.

• The Falcon 20 has a genuine military pedigree.

The type was used by military and government operators in several countries. The U.S. Coast Guard operated the HU-25 Guardian, a Falcon 20 derivative, for missions including search and rescue and maritime surveillance. Dassault itself describes the Falcon's rugged fighter-derived structures and systems as part of the company's approach to business aircraft design.

That's not marketing language.
That's the aircraft's history.

When the Falcon 20 entered the market, its closest competitors included the Learjet 23, Hawker 125 and North American Sabreliner.

Learjet 35: approximately 1,500 nm range, typically around 6 to 8 passengers depending on configuration.

Hawker 125 series: up to 8 passengers in approved configurations, with range varying by model and configuration.

Sabreliner 60: approximately 1,335 nm maximum range in one commonly referenced configuration, with around 7 passengers.

The Falcon 20 sits in that same classic-generation business-jet conversation, but the Dassault airframe has a character all its own.

The Dassault Falcon 20 is not for every buyer.
If you want a modern cabin, current-generation avionics and maximum efficiency, I would point you toward a newer aircraft.
If you want something with genuine Dassault DNA, a fighter-derived design philosophy and a place in business aviation history, this is a very different proposition.
And yes, it is an old airplane.
