DASSAULT FALCON 900DX
Dassault Falcon 900DX: The Value Trijet
The 2005 Affordable Long-Range
The Falcon 900DX entered service in the mid-2000s and sits in an interesting part of the pre-owned market. You get a genuine long-range trijet, a large cabin and the handling characteristics Falcon pilots know well, without buying an aircraft designed around missions you may rarely fly.

Dassault took the proven Falcon 900 platform, kept the three-engine layout and the same basic cabin, and configured the aircraft for operators who did not need to carry the maximum fuel load on every trip. That can make a lot of sense when you know your real missions.
Specifications That Optimized Value
• Range: 7,400 km (4,000 nm) - transatlantic, not ultra long - range;
• Speed: 950 km/h (513 knots) - same as other 900s;
• Capacity: 12 – 19 passengers in the unchanged cabin;
• Engines: Three TFE731-60 (5,000 lbf) - same as EX;
• Price: Significantly lower than EX models.

The 900DX is powered by three Honeywell TFE731 engines. These engines have a long service history in business aviation and are well known to maintenance organizations around the world.
The cabin is another strong point. Depending on the interior configuration, the aircraft can accommodate a substantial passenger group while still giving you the kind of space expected from a large-cabin Falcon.
And this is where the DX makes sense.
If your normal operation is regional Europe, the Middle East, Africa or similar missions where you are not constantly pushing maximum range, carrying less fuel capacity can be perfectly reasonable. Why carry fuel you do not need?
Three things worth knowing about the Falcon 900DX
  • It is a true trijet.
The Falcon 900 family was designed around three engines from the beginning. That gives the aircraft a distinctive operational profile and is one of the reasons the 900 became such an important aircraft in Dassault's large-cabin range.
  • The cabin did not become "small" just because it is a DX.
This is still a Falcon 900 airframe. You are buying a large-cabin aircraft with the space and layout that made the 900 family popular with corporate and private operators.
  • The DX can be a very sensible mission aircraft.
This is probably the most important point. Aircraft selection should start with the mission, not the brochure.
If you fly 3,000 to 3,500 nautical miles regularly, why pay for an aircraft optimized for missions you rarely fly? In aviation, carrying capability you never use still costs you weight, fuel and money.
That is where I would look at the 900DX carefully.
Dassault Falcon 900DX competitors
Bombardier Challenger 604: approximately 4,000 nm range, typically 8 to 12 passengers.
Gulfstream G450: approximately 4,100 nm range, typically 12 to 16 passengers.
Dassault Falcon 900EX: approximately 4,500 nm range, typically 12 to 14 passengers.

The numbers are useful, but they do not tell the whole story. Cabin layout, runway requirements, payload, avionics, maintenance status and actual mission profile can change the comparison considerably.
The Verdict
The Falcon 900DX is an aircraft I would consider when the mission calls for a large-cabin business jet with the character and capability of the 900 family, but does not justify carrying maximum fuel on every flight.
It is a serious aircraft. Three engines, a large cabin, proven systems and the kind of range that covers a lot of international business aviation.
The important question is whether it is the right 900 for your flying.
