When Cessna introduced the Citation Sovereign in 2004, they created something unusual: a super mid - size jet with large - jet range. The Sovereign could fly 5,926 km (3,200 nm) - New York to London non-stop - while operating from 3,500 - foot runways. It was the aircraft that made Cessna competitive in the transcontinental market.

Three things I would remember about the Sovereign
- First, it was built around a very practical idea.
They got pretty close.
- Second, look at the runway numbers.
For an owner, this can be more important than another 20 or 30 knots of cruise speed. Airport access is part of the aircraft's value. If the jet can use the airports you actually need, it saves time before you even start talking about cruise performance.
- Third, don't confuse the Sovereign with the Sovereign+.
The later Sovereign+ received more powerful PW306D engines, winglets and increased range. The Sovereign+ is the version associated with the 3,200 nm published range.
So when you see 3,200 nm in an advertisement for a "Sovereign", check the exact model.
It is a small detail in an advertisement.
It is not a small detail when you are buying the aircraft.
Cessna Citation Sovereign competitors
Bombardier Challenger 300 for sale / Range: about 3,220 nm / Passengers: up to 16, depending on configuration.
Gulfstream G200 for sale / Range: about 3,394 nm / Passengers: up to 18, depending on configuration.
Hawker 900XP for sale / Range: about 2,700 nm / Passengers: usually around 8 to 9.
